Lionel Messi was just named by UEFA as the Best Player in Europe for the 2010 – 2011 season. This new UEFA award is given to a European club player, based on a player’s performance for both their club and country.
Messi is clearly the best player in the world at this point, so it goes without saying that he was a shoe-in for the European award. Messi received 38 votes, putting him ahead of a Barcelona teammate Xavi (11 votes) and Cristiano Ronaldo (3 votes).
