Shortly after making what some have called “the worse call in baseball history,” umpire Jim Joyce apologized to pitcher Armando Galarraga in person. Joyce found Galarraga, cried, and told him he was sorry. Galaragga response was first class, saying that people make mistakes, and that these things happen. I was very impressed with how poised he was. Joyce said “I just cost that kid a perfect game. I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay. It was the biggest call of my career.” It’s nice to see an official accept responsibility for a mistake. It does happen to everyone. Sure would be nice to be able to use instant replay 🙂
“There’s no one that feels worse than I do,” said Joyce who admitted he had the perfect angle and simple missed it.
